Effect of eccentricity in reinforced concrete beam-column-slab connection under cyclic loading

Rooh ULLAH, Amjad NASEER, Muhammad FAHIM, Mohammad ASHRAF, Eid BADSHAH

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2021, Volume 15, Issue 2,   Pages 390-398 doi: 10.1007/s11709-021-0690-3

Abstract: Beam–column connections are one of the most critical elements of reinforced concrete structures, especially in seismically active regions, and have been extensively evaluated experimentally and numerically. However, very limited experimental studies about eccentric reinforced concrete connections including the effect of connected slabs are available. This study presents the experimental results of two half-scale eccentric beam-column-slab connections subjected to quasi-static cyclic loading. The horizontal eccentricity ( ) is maintained at 12.5% and 25% of column width ( ) for specimens 1 and 2, respectively. The damage pattern, performance levels, displacement ductility ( ), energy dissipation, and connection strength and stiffness are compared for both specimens, and the effect of eccentricity is evaluated. It is concluded that the eccentricity has no significant effect on the lateral load carrying capacity; however, the overall strength degradation increases with the increase in eccentricity. Similarly, the elastic stiffness of specimen 2 decreased by 14% as the eccentricity increased from 12.5% to 25%; however, the eccentricity had no significant effect on the overall stiffness degradation. decreased by 43%, and the energy dissipation capacity decreased by 40% in specimen 2 with higher eccentricity. The story drifts corresponding to the performance levels of the life safety (LS) and collapse prevention (CP) were found to be 28% lesser in specimen 2 than in specimen 1.

Friendship-aware task planning in mobile crowdsourcing Article

Yuan LIANG,Wei-feng LV,Wen-jun WU,Ke XU

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2017, Volume 18, Issue 1,   Pages 107-121 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1601860

Abstract: Recently, crowdsourcing platforms have attracted a number of citizens to perform a variety of locationspecific tasks. However, most existing approaches consider the arrangement of a set of tasks for a set of crowd workers, while few consider crowd workers arriving in a dynamic manner. Therefore, how to arrange suitable location-specific tasks to a set of crowd workers such that the crowd workers obtain maximum satisfaction when arriving sequentially represents a challenge. To address the limitation of existing approaches, we first identify a more general and useful model that considers not only the arrangement of a set of tasks to a set of crowd workers, but also all the dynamic arrivals of all crowd workers. Then, we present an effective crowd-task model which is applied to offline and online settings, respectively. To solve the problem in an offline setting, we first observe the characteristics of task planning (CTP) and devise a CTP algorithm to solve the problem. We also propose an effective greedy method and integrated simulated annealing (ISA) techniques to improve the algorithm performance. To solve the problem in an online setting, we develop a greedy algorithm for task planning. Finally, we verify the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed solutions through extensive experiments using real and synthetic datasets.

A fuzzy integrated congestion-aware routing algorithm for network on chip Research Articles

Shahrouz Yasrebi, Akram Reza, Mohammad Nikravan, Seena Vazifedan,a.reza@qodsiau.ac.ir,a.ak.reza@gmail.com

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2021, Volume 22, Issue 5,   Pages 615-766 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2000069

Abstract: (NoC) is an infrastructure providing a communication platform to multiprocessor chips. Furthermore, the wormhole-switching method, which shares resources, was used to increase its efficiency; however, this can lead to congestion. Moreover, dealing with this congestion consumes more energy and correspondingly leads to increase in power consumption. Furthermore, consuming more power results in more heat and increases thermal fluctuations that lessen the life span of the infrastructures and, more importantly, the network’s performance. Given these complications, providing a method that controls congestion is a significant design challenge. In this paper, a is presented to enhance the NoC’s performance when facing congestion. To avoid congestion, the proposed algorithm employs the occupied input buffer and the total occupied buffers of the neighboring nodes along with the maximum possible path diversity with minimal path length from instant neighbors to the destination as the selection parameters. To enhance the path selection function, the uncertainty of the algorithm is used. As a result, the average delay, power consumption, and maximum delay are reduced by 14.88%, 7.98%, and 19.39%, respectively. Additionally, the proposed method enhances the throughput and the total number of packets received by 14.9% and 11.59%, respectively. To show the significance, the proposed algorithm is examined using transpose traffic patterns, and the average delay is improved by 15.3%. The average delay is reduced by 3.8% in TMPEG-4 (treble MPEG-4), 36.6% in QPIP (quadruplicate PIP), and 20.9% in TVOPD (treble VOPD).
